CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN
The Children’s Hospital Emergency Management Plan is an organization-wide, integrated community approach to Emergency Preparedness. It acts as a framework through which to prepare for, respond to and assist Orleans Parish, other parishes, and other healthcare facilities in the mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery from a wide variety of emergency events, mass casualty incidents or natural disasters.
The potential disasters and emergencies in the plan are divided into 4 color-coded responses based on the type of disaster:
- Code Yellow (External Disaster) - disaster where the focus is outside of the facility and the community infrastructure may or may not be compromised
- Code Green (Internal Disaster) - disaster limited in scope to the facility and the surrounding community infrastructure is still intact and available as a resource
- Code Gray (Inclement Weather) - usually predictable disaster relating to weather conditions
- Code Orange (Nuclear Biological Chemical) - disaster caused by an intentional act or an accident that releases a nuclear, biological or chemical agent by any means, including explosive or incendiary device
A Hospital Incident Command System structure is utilized by Children's Hospital for the extreme cases of disaster in which massive resources are required. During a disaster, the Incident Command Leader can be reached by calling (504) 896-9452.
