The Michael Jeffrey Lupin Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 26-bed unit that offers a computerized monitoring system capable of advanced hemodynamic monitoring, intracranial pressure and continuous electroencephalography, and continuous end tidal pressure of carbon dioxide monitoring—all with 24-hour trending capabilities. In addition, seven rooms in this unit are designated for isolation.
Patients receive care for a full spectrum of diseases and therapies, as well as postoperative heart and renal surgeries. The unit can also provide all ventilatory support, including ECMO.
The unit is staffed around the clock with a full-time medical director, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and second- and third-year residents to maintain continuity of care for patients.
A new 20-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and a new 18-bed PICU is under construction and is scheduled to open in summer 2009. Both units will house the finest technology within the individually designed and organized critical care environments.
